Adult Application Process Change

Effective September 1, 2017, the National Council now requires a printed copy of the youth protection training certificate to accompany all new adult applications.  This means that if you bring in a paper copy of the application, a printed copy of the YPT certificate must be with it.  We cannot accept an application without the attached certificate.  If you register online, a paper copy of the YPT certificate must be sent into the Council Service Center.  There is no longer a 30-day grace period to get your youth protection training completed.  It must be done prior to submission of any new adult application.  We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this causes our volunteers.

Membership Fee Increase

FROM THE NATIONAL COUNCIL:  The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.

To do this-while delivering the nation’s foremost youth development program-the BSA must remain vigilant in controlling costs.  Although we have been successful in reducing our expenditures in many areas, it has become necessary to evaluate our annual membership fees.

Based on feedback from both volunteers and employees, the BSA membership fee will increase to $33 for all registered youth and adult leaders, effective December 1, 2017.

Membership fees support the services that are necessary to provide Scouting to youth from 7 to 21 years of age.  From education to high-adventure experiences you can’t get anyplace else, the BSA provides unique growth opportunities at a great value.

Services include primary liability coverage for all volunteer leaders and chartered organization, ongoing advances in technology, fundraising support, new program development and membership recruiting strategies and support materials.

Please note that some chartered partners such as the LDS Church have other financial arrangements with BSA, and this will not affect those arrangements.

“We believe it is critical to evolve how our programs meet the needs of families interested in positive and lifelong experiences for their children,” said Chief Scout Executive Michael Surbaugh. “We strive to bring what our organization does best — developing character and leadership for young people — to as many families and youth as possible as we help shape the next generation of leaders.”

"Let’s say there’s a Boy Scout who has completed all the requirement for the Eagle Scout rank. He finished the merit badges, service project, active participation, Scout spirit, position of responsibility and unit leader conference. But he still lacks one step: the Eagle Scout board of review. And then — Happy Birthday! — he turns 18. He’s no longer a Boy Scout. Is it too late for that Scout to earn Eagle?"
